Looking for a new chicken coop option for your flock? Before you spend hours and hours.. and hours and hours building a DIY chicken coop out of wood, check out this easy to set up option from Amazon.

After all, your chickens don’t need to live in the Taj Mahal! They just need something practical, functional, and comfortable to reside in. This coop fits the bill nicely.

Chicken Pen with Water-Resident and Anti-UV Cover

Here’s the coop from Amazon you might want to consider if you need a new home for “the girls” as my father in law likes to call them.

They added the little house on the back as you can see for them to sleep in.

This does NOT come with the metal coop but you can certainly buy one separately if you want to recreate this setup. Not a bad pad for these chickens to hang in if you ask me!

In case you prefer to see things “live” here is a clip I took of the coop! I also give a little bit of detail about the features of it.

Other Chicken Coop Essentials

Inside of the chicken coop there you’ll spot some other little extras that are nice to have. This style of water bucket has served very well. It holds a ton of water, is very easy to take a part and clean, and the chickens seem to have no issue drinking from it.

This particular water jug snaps into the base and has a vacuum sealed cap. The impact resistance controls the automatic water flow.

For feeding the chickens, honestly we just throw feed on the ground and let them graze. You can purchase feeders or baskets to hold their food though if you prefer.

The chickens like to lay their eggs inside the little grey house you see in the back. Notice the two rocks on the lid to the box on the left hand side? That’s to keep the predators out. Not the most aesthetically pleasing, but it works.

Most chickens do enjoy a “perch ledge” or bar. You can really just throw two pieces of wood into the ground and nail another one across horizontally (see directly to the right of the back chicken house, still inside the metal coop though).

If you would rather purchase something, here’s a great pick from Amazon to make it easy.

Chicken Perch

Hey, even chickens enjoy a good play set to pass the days away enjoying. 🙂

You definitely want a nesting box of sorts as well if you don’t have another enclosed “home” towards the back of the metal frame.

They want to lay their eggs in peace! I mean, who wouldn’t? 😉

This nesting box would get the job done perfectly and even looks cute, too!

Alright, here comes the not-so-fun part. Sometimes you gotta scoop the poop. Keeping your chicken coop well maintained sometimes includes doing the dirty work. A pooper scoop will come in handy!

Heavy Duty Chicken Poop Scooper

Not the most exciting purchase you’ll ever make, but an essential one none the less.

Of course there are a ton of other “extras” you could invest in to make your coop a fancy smancy hotel for your birds, but these simple items are really all you need!

Conclusion

Whether you’ve been a chicken owner for years and looking for a new coop or are researching all of this for the very first time, I hope you found our review of the chicken coop helpful.
